The media could not be loaded.Adding a torque converter to my old mini bike has made it better all the way around, a lot more torque, tries to pop a wheelie on me. And a lot more speed on the top end, there’s no downside to this thin at all….. except installing it.I installed this on my Coleman CT200U-EX. I’m not sure if it’s the same for all Coleman mini bikes but at least for this one. So, if you are installing this on a Coleman mini bike, read this review carefully. LolFirst thing you want to do is remove your centrifugal clutch that is on there now, measure the shaft. You can use on micrometer if you have one but it’s pretty evident to see if it’s thinner than 3/4 in, but if it’s 3/4-in you are in luck just buy the 3/4-in kit and you’re good to go…. If it’s smaller than 3/4 inch it will be a 16 mm and in that case you will either have to buy a 16 mm kit which cost about $200 or you can buy a shaft adapter to increase your 16 mm to a 1″ in diameter shaft. Now they do have shaft adapters to bring it to a three-quarter inch or a 1 in everywhere but none of them will work because the driver pulley is keyed to go on to a female shaft, and that won’t work with a cheapo shaft adapter. Now the shaft adapter that you need unfortunately is not sold on amazon. Actually it seems like only one manufacturer makes it, so you can buy it directly from them on the Internet or they also sell it on e bay, either way it’s the same price so I would probably use e bay. To find the one you need just search for “16Mm To 1″ Crank Adapter Sleeve Fits Coleman”. It cost about $40 but it is the only one that will work in this situation. also this one comes with the bolt for the driver pulling the drive shaft because the one that comes with the torque converter is not the right size you need. Now you can go ahead and buy a 16 mm torque converter kit that is the same torque converter as this one and includes the adapter that you can buy for $40 but that kit will cost you at least $200. So you’re better off buying this kit and the adapter and saving the money. Also biggest tip while installing is make sure before you put the adapter and the driver pulley on the shaft, triple check your instructions and make super duper sure that everything is on there and in the right order because you do not want to have to try to take them back off, every time you do manage to get them back off it makes it even harder to get back on. Trust me, I had to remove mine twice was darn near mpossible to do. Clean the shafts very good and lubricate them before trying to put the pulley on, most likely you will need a rubber mallet to tap it on or a hammer in a block of wood. Be gentle though. When you go to install the torque converter backplate you will notice that there is a heat shield that sticks out and has to be hammered in a little, also there is a bolt that holds that heat shield in place that will need to be removed, it does not hurt anything to leave it out it just holds the heat shield in place but your torque converter backplate will be pushed against it anyway so it’s not necessary. About must be removed for the torque converter backplate to seat properly and straight. I put a close up photo of the area where the bolt is and the heat shield. Also you will need to lift the engine about an inch to put this on and either use a riser that will bring your engine up and forward or you will have to cut off a piece of the frame that holds the chain guard in place. Personally I use the riser that lifted it up and pushed it forward a few a little because I don’t like the idea of cutting a frame whether it’s structurally important or not. However when you use the riser to move it forward a little you will have to use about five links off the Jack shaft chain added to the drive chain because it will be too short… So you will need a chain breaker too as well. The kit I ordered off of Amazon with the riser came with all necessary bolts to hook it up so everything worked perfect. You can look at my pictures on here to see how it turned out.I hope this helps anybody who is getting ready to do this, I’ve heard that it’s not worth the effort but while it is not the easiest thing in the world to do it is definitely worth it.
